Sustaining Your Writing Habit This November
by Samuel (Noam) Tzuberi
Quiet Community Over Word Counts
For many of us, November used to have a sound. The low hum of a café back room, laptops open, someone calling out a word sprint, a stranger at the next table quietly typing their way toward chapter four. As WNBA-SF asked in its recent piece, “No More NaNoWriMo? What Now?”, many of those regional write-ins have changed shape or disappeared altogether.
What hasn’t disappeared is the need behind them. Writers still want a reason to show up, a little accountability, and the comfort of knowing other people are wrestling with their pages at the same time.
So here is an invitation for this November: let go of the 50,000-word sprint and treat the month as a chance to build a habit you can keep. Not a race to a number, but a rhythm that carries you into December and beyond. The book gets finished by the writer who keeps returning to it, not by the one who burns out on November 14th.
