Birgit Soyka
http://www.todrinkthewildair.com

Birgit Soyka spent her youth in her native Germany, chasing the horizon from the age of 5. Her desire to fly like the birds and live a "life less ordinary" led her to an early passion for big motorcycles and into an aspired career as one of the first female motorcycle road racers in Germany and southern California.

A veteran world traveler, Birgit lived on two continents, in several countries and a dozen different cities. What was originally intended as a year of "adventure travel" in the United States in her early 20's turned into a much bigger "life adventure", passionately leading her through many inspirational and thought provoking experiences into a professional career in international Logistics. Now 25 years later, she makes her home in the city of San Francisco, California with the three beautiful Amazon parrots she saved and adopted while living in Mexico.

You can have more love in your life because you can deserve more love. Yes, men will understand this book about romance. It is up to you and your partner to EARN IT.

Bridget Kinsella, Breaking Books
For seventeen years Bridget Kinsella has been an editor at Publishers Weekly, where she covered every aspect of the book publishing and bookselling fields-including landing the exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey when she first started her book club.

In 2007, the Harmony division of Random House published Bridget's nonfiction book Visiting Life: Women Doing Time on the Outside. Named as a "hot summer read" by both U.S.A. Today and the San Francisco Chronicle, the bestselling book brought Bridget much media attention, including several interviews on National Public Radio, features in Marie Claire, Glamour and Elle, and an interview on the Today Show.

Bridget's freelance journalism has appeared in The Chicago Tribune and Writer's Digest and on Salon.com and NPR. Bridget has taught journalism at the State University of New York's Purchase College and has been a featured lecturer at the Simon Frasier University Publishing Program.

Bridget's experience covering the book business as a journalist, as a sought-after publishing expert, and an author, give her an informed insight into the book business. Bridget is quite selective about the book projects she takes on, but is eager to work with writers who wish to get published.

After retiring as a family therapist (MFT), my passion for families failed to diminish. So I embarked on a new career of combining food and travel-writing (something light, for a change) by traveling to France and Italy. My theory was simple: If favorite foods and traditions bring families together, then the place they most often congregate is at their kitchen table. So, in the sanctity of their homes and in the warmth of new-found friendship, I was privileged to wile away the hours by consuming the most amazing of home-cooked meals while drinking their favorite wines and listening to the most fascinating of family tales. My book project, Savoring the Olde Ways, began as a compilation of these intimate interviews with the emphasis on traditional foods, favorite recipes, and cultural histories. (This may be a series of books.) My novel, A Cup of Redemption, which I have just completed, also came out of these interviews, but moved into a place of greater depth. It is the story of three women—two French and one American—who come together over coffee and conversation to exchange stories of love and loss during times of war. And, to further my research of war-time France, I also became a daily ‘war correspondent’ for a tour (August ’09) of U.S. Army veterans (3rd Infantry Division) who celebrated the 65th anniversary of the 2nd landing on the beaches of the Côte d’Azur. For two weeks, I traveled with eight ‘reluctant heroes,’ as I called them, and their families, while recording their stories as they were celebrated and honored by literally thousands of villagers in forty-six villages from St. Tropez to Strasbourg—their route of liberation. My daily e-reports were carried in newspapers in the U.S., along with on the 3rd Infantry’s national website. This tour helped deepen my understanding of the destructive toll war has on families, but also enlightened me to the strength of the human spirit. Again, I was introduced to hundreds of French families and welcomed into many homes where I am continuing to gather more of their individual memories of WWII. Perhaps, my next book? http://savoringtheoldeways.blogspot.com/ http://acupofredemption.blogspot.com/
Cathy Robbins
My book "All Indians Do Not Live in Teepees (or Casinos)," which is about contemporary American Indians, is now headed to bookstores and electronic venues. Although it is a work of journalism, the publisher is Bison Books/University of Nebraska Press, one of the world's largest producers of material about American Indians. Initial reviews have been heartening. Publishers Weekly wrote that "it effortlessly depicts politics, culture and pride; as a first book, it is a marvel." I have been a reporter and writer for nearly four decades, and my work has appeared in newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times. Born in Brooklyn into an Italian immigrant family, I have degrees from Columbia and New York Universities. My husband and I lived in New Mexico for more than 35 years (that explains the Indian connection), and for the past ten years, we have led a semi-nomadic life following our daughter's family to California and helping to care for three grandchildren. (Unfortunately, our son is across the continent in New York.) Right now, I'm in the throes of marketing for Teepees/Casinos, but I am already doing research for my next project, "Nobody Travels South of Rome," about Calabria, my ancestral homeland. We recently returned to San Francisco after stints in San Diego and San Jose. Nice to be back.

Christopher C. Payne WNBA Treasurer
Having three daughters might seem like reward/trial enough but I have recently chosen to venture into the literary field as well. Having a degree in Finance I have spent my entire career in corporate accounting and finally decided, I just couldn't take it anymore.

I have written my first book, Duncan's Diary, Birth of a Serial Killer. While the book is not what I originally intended, it does hold one's interest effectively throughout. It is more violent and psychologically unnerving than I would have originally anticipated. Since it was written during a tumultuous time in my life, I guess it is nothing more than a reflection of the sadness that was erupting inside. Words are but a window to our inner souls. The interesting question is can we face what we see once it is opened.

Not that I have or do condone any actions that Duncan might have performed. I feel for him as a character and think he would do society service by being locked in a very damp dark jail cell.

Thanks and as always. Sleep with one eye open. hahahahahaahahah Visit his websites at

Kate Britton
Kate Britton, VP WNBA-SF chapter.

Well, I think I should start this bio by saying that my most useful degree is the one I earned at the School of Hard Knocks. In a moment of grace I graduated the class of 1993, with my life.

Since that moment I’ve successfully made the transition from street life to real life, working in a variety of occupations--all legal--from Waitress to Logistics Manager, always knowing I would eventually be able to tell the story of these years, a story which I believe is essentially one of hope.

Through a series of eight compelling stories, each connected by central character and chronology, and each the circumstance of an epiphany or turning point on my fifteen year odyssey, that story is told in my memoir, Over the Edge. As I continue to shop for representation, I have found the WNBA-SF Chapter to be a wonderful organization, full of writers, some, first time authors like myself, as well as seasoned authors and publishing professionals, knowledgeable about the many changing aspects of the industry and willing to share valuable information. I am happy to be able to serve the organization in the position of Vice President and I look forward to meeting you at one of our many events.
