The Women’s National Book Association was established in 1917 and is celebrating the organization’s centennial in 2017 with a series of literary events nationwide, a publication celebrating the history of women in the world of books, a list of 100 essential books by women authors, and a grant to a non-profit literacy organization—culminating in a gala celebration in October 2017 where the next WNBA Award winner will be honored.

The WNBA is a vibrant, broad-based non-profit with 11 active chapters and over 800 members across the country, 3 distinguished national awards, and a history of lively events in chapter cities and elsewhere. 

National Network: Brings together writers, authors, editors, publishers, librarians, readers, book sellers, distributors, event planners, social media managers, and more…! Networking with other WNBA chapters in major cities around the US helps publicize your book and expertise: Author & Business Package, Bookwoman. This year WNBA will upgrade to a new, searchable National Directory system for all chapters.

As a San Francisco Chapter member you will:

  • Meet publishing professionals face to face at FREE WNBA mixers, readings, educational events and at our successful Pitch-O-Rama where many local authors met agents and editors that led to publishing contracts!
  • For $30/year a published author or publishing professional member can have two book covers or logos on the WNBA/National home page and link to their business blog and website.
  • If you use @WNBA National, the national organization will often favor or re-tweet your tweets, increasing your following.
  • As WNBA member, you are eligible to submit an article for consideration in the Bookwoman – the national newsletter that goes to all 11 chapters and every member. And you can list your recent news in Bookwoman Member News.
  • Link your blog or website to the SF chapter. Your member profile will appear in our brand new National Directory to be launched soon. 
  • Having WNBA on your resume is a plus, as it has helped many women move their careers forward – agents like to see that you serve the local literary community.
  • Member Discounts for WNBA ticketed events.
  • Ability to promote and sell your book or services at specified events.
  • Volunteer at the many high profile events, including the Bay Area Book Festival and the San Francisco Writers Conference, WNBA sponsors and meet publishers from all over North America, including some of top-level “Big Six” publishers.
  • Great way to network!!!! Attend as many in person meetings and events as possible to get to know people. Then there’s a good chance that you will make some really great connections.
